Mechanical characterizations

Characterization methods and standards

We are involved both in the preparation of samples for testing and in their characterization.
To this end, we calibrate, dimension, and implement the test specimens and the setups necessary for their evaluation according to the chosen methods, among which we can primarily mention:

  • ASTM C365 Standard Test Method for Flatwise Compressive Properties of Sandwich Cores,
  • ASTM C273 Standard Test Method for Shear Properties of Sandwich Core Materials,
  • ASTM D7336 Standard Test Method for Static Energy Absorption Properties of Honeycomb Sandwich Core Materials,

Test equipment

We have on site all the testing equipment necessary to evaluate the main mechanical characteristics of core materials:
INSTRON 5982 tensile compression testing machine equipped with a 100 kN force cell, self-aligning spherical compression plates, shear device, LVDT displacement sensors…

We are also equipped with basic metrology tools to carry out the necessary dimensional checks (marble, digital calipers up to 800mm, comparators, very high precision micrometer…).
